In an exclusive interview with ZNBC in Kitwe, Tembo emphasizes the need for the government to tighten the procedures for obtaining and reselling mining licenses.
This precautionary measure aims to prevent artisanal miners from engaging in unauthorized selling of their licenses.
And mining economist Aaron Sikombe, based on the Copperbelt, offers valuable advice to the government. Sikombe suggests ensuring that Zambians holding mining licenses enter into partnerships with individuals possessing the necessary capacity for mining activities. This strategic approach is seen as crucial for maximizing the positive impact of mining endeavors.
In a related development, Saul Simujika, the President of the National Union of Miners and Allied Workers, encourages artisanal miners to become members of mine unions.
Simujika believes that such subscriptions will facilitate organized labor, creating a conducive and safe environment for artisanal mining operations, ensuring a systematic and orderly process.
